The NOA was founded in 1968. She is the prime umbrella association representing over 6000 doctors of Optometry across the 36 States of Nigeria & the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The body also represents other Optometric interest groups in Nigeria. The Association is an affiliate member of the African Council of Optometry (AFCO) & the World Council of Optometry (WCO). NOA is the umbrella body for all NOA State Chapters; The Association of Optometric Educators (AOE); The Women Optometrists in Nigeria (WON); & the Association of Optometrists in Public Health Care in Nigeria (AOPHCN); & Nigerian Optometric Students Association (NOSA). NOA is a public-focused group that provides quality and affordable eye care services to the Nigerian populace through its members, while also giving them access to valuable information on eye care, vision and health. Over 70% of professional vision care and primary eye care services in Nigeria are provided by Optometrists. NOA also advocates for the optometric profession as well as promoting and protecting its interest by, providing a strong and unified position of support for its welfare.
