The President of the Nigerian Optometric Association, Dr.Chimeziri has charged the newly inducted Optometrists from Bayero University Kano, to exemplify all they have gathered in the course of their training through good conduct and excellent service delivery as Optometrists.
“You are verified eye health practitioners, utilize your one year of internship to get the requisite clinical knowledge and conduct yourselves well, as you do.”
The president of the Nigerian Optometric Association, who was ably represented by the National Secretary Dr. Victor Aliche reassured the inductees that they have good job prospects waiting for them in northern parts of Nigeria including Abuja.
“It is a sign of good things for Optometry, having graduands from the north.”
The event was a harmonized induction ceremony involving all the professions in the College of Allied Health Sciences including, Optometry, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy, Radiotherapy and Nursing which took place at the Convocation Arena of Bayero University Kano’s new site on September 7th, 2023.
“He promised that efforts are ongoing to ensure more optometry training programs in universities in the Northern part of Nigeria which will serve the Sahel Sub-Saharan region of Africa. .”
The Registrar of Optometrists and Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria, Dr.Obinna Awiaka commended the inductees for their resilience through the Optometry program and also appreciated the management of Bayero University Kano for their support to Optometry training in the institution, stating that this was the 2nd Optometry induction ceremony of the institution.
Forty-four Optometrists were inducted in this batch and the NOA award for best clinician went to Dr Dayyiba Yusuf Muhammad while the Leadership award went to Dr Dahiru Una Gurjiya, who was President of the Nigerian Optometric Students Association.
