Defending the Profession

The major role of NOA is to advocate for our members. We negotiate and advocate on behalf of our members to help define ethics and policy on professional issues. We actively lobby at both the State and federal level to ensure your voice is heard by policy makers and politicians, whose decisions impact your practice. NOA’s advocacy platform is developed in response to public eye care and member’s needs and targeted to support the public and members of this profession meet the growing eye health needs. As a result, the platform is currently focused on:

Engaging in strategic advocacy and legislative lobbying
Supporting the recognition and regulation of optometry across Nigeria
Working with the EXCO to establish a policy platform that will outline policies and action which are evidence-based, vital and achievable.
Using the policy platform as a blueprint for action to partner with government to preserve and enhance the long-term viability and sustainability of primary eye and vision care for all Nigerians.
Advocate for the development of a remuneration system which provides fair and sustainable fees for optometry services

Lobby to ensure that optimum policy and regulatory settings exist to support a well-educated optometry workforce undertaking advanced primary eye and vision care to meet the needs of the Nigerian community
Advocate on nationwide acceptance of optometric postgraduate specialty training
Engaging in strategic advocacy and legislative lobbying
Supporting the recognition and regulation of optometry across Nigeria
Encourage optometry branding and endorsement of products
Establishing and supporting a well-distributed workforce that can meet primary eye and vision care needs across the country
Work with the EXCO to partner with Educational institutions, optometry schools and corporate world.
Advocate for optimum funding of optometry education at all levels by government
