NOA Moves to Strengthen Ties And Open Up Training For Optometry In Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Markurdi

In a bid to get more strategic partnerships and make more inroads for Optometry training in Northern Nigeria, the President of the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), Dr Anderson Chimeziri, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi, Prof.Isaac Itodo on Tuesday, 16th April, 2024.
The meeting was aimed at building a cordial relationship with the University and its management as well as to discuss the possibility of starting Optometry program in the institution.

The President and his team were heartily welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor. In his address, Dr Anderson extolled the Vice-Chancellor for his giant strides
“In a very short time after you were appointed the 7th Vice Chancellor of this university precisely on April 17th 2023. You have left no one in doubt on your rescue mission to position this citadel of knowledge as first among its contemporaries.”

The Vice-Chancellor, in his remarks said the university was unbundling from a former University of Agriculture to a more conventional University, offering courses to meet up with current trend. Hence the plan and push for the Faculty of Health in the University will be a reality. He assured the President of NOA that Optometry Department will be well considered when this happens and appreciated Dr Anderson’s foresight saying he looks forward to a cordial relationship with the Nigerian Optometric Association.

The principal officers of the University present were; Professor Comfort Dooshima Tuleun, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Fidelis Ayatse, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics and Dr. Ujoh, John David; the Registrar.

The NOA delegatation was made of Dr Ben Adaka,member Board of Trustees(BOT), NOA; Dr Omo, Dr. Hembe Torkpa and Dr. Fanyam Christian.
